The project involves the partial demolition and adaptation of an existing single-family house to create new living spaces. We repaired the roof structure, restored the plasticity and texture of the existing rammed-earth and lime walls, and opened up floor slabs to enhance visual connections, as well as improve natural light and ventilation conditions throughout the rooms.
Referencing John Hejduk, we propose a catalogue of “masques” —a repertoire of object/subjects with diverse materials and temporalities: autonomous, compact, yet highly performative. Among them: the vertical stove; the stair-fridge; the kitchen island; the shelving-infrastructure; the stair-viewpoint; the glass bathroom; the mineral pool; the curtain-canopy; the washbasin-voyeur; the skylight-viewpoint.
These masques allow us to gradually equip the “hard” core of the house—the four existing lime-wall bays. They test and question the space, transforming and adapting over time to the changing needs of their users.
